Biofilter Tanks are specially configured effluent pump chambers. WCP manufacturers these tanks for use by contractors installing 3rd party proprietary biofilter systems, such as those manufactured by Waterloo Biofilter Systems, Rockwood, Ontario.

These tanks essentially house a media in which aerobic bacteria can form a biomass. When dosed with effluent from a septic tank, the biomass digests most of the organic content from the liquid as it trickles down through the media. This provides in-tank aerobic treatment of the effluent. When used and working as designed, the effluent discharged from the biofilter tank is almost completely treated. Thus, very little further treatment is required in the septic bed. This type of treatment normally requires less septic bed area.

Each biofilter tank is pre-configured with cast-in fittings for electrical conduit and piping. Also installed is a PVC junction box c/w a 14-terminal strip and strain reliefs for electrical wiring. One 36" wide x 60" long access riser allows for convenient service of the installed components. A hinged, self-venting, lockable aluminum checkerplate cover is installed on the riser.

When functioning as intended, this aerobic treatment process generates very little odour or corrosive gases. Care must be taken, not to kill the treatment process, by introducing products such as paint, solvents, bleaches, medications, etc. into your septic system. These types of products will destroy bacteria in both your septic as well as biofilter tank, and thus render the entire system non-functional.

Biofilter tanks normally contain a small amount of liquid at all times. Therefore, care must be taken when installing where high soil water levels may pose tank flotation concerns.

Biofilter systems are only supplied and installed by licensed contractors, trained and approved by the system manufacturer. Each system must be inspected / serviced annually in compliance with the biofilter manufacturers requirements.

Features of a Winona Biofilter Tank include:

       -CSA Certified

-All fittings for conduit and piping are cast-in-place.

-Large concrete cast-in-place access riser with hinged lockable aluminum lid and installed PVC junction box is standard on all sizes of tanks.

-Oval shape with minimum flat wall components for inherent design strength. This shape is ideal for installation of biofilter components

-Fully automated computerized low water-to-cement mix designs produce high density, high strength concrete.
